Issue No.4 2006
I wish to start with a request. I would appreciate it greatly if those with Email addresses would contact the TTSPCA at support@ttspca.com. It would be a cost effective way of sending the newsletter to our members and perhaps the newsletters would also be more frequent.
The Newsletter is also placed on our NEW website www.TTSPCA.com which I would encourage our members to visit and also to recommend to their friends who might be able or interested in assisting us in some way.
Obituary Notice – David John Phillips 1927 - 2006
David Phillips was the Chairman of the TTSPCA Tobago Branch for 9 years. During that time he over saw the expansion of the shelter from 24 kennels to the present 35 along with major alterations to the office facilities.
Though born in the UK, the island of Tobago became his home, after working many years in banking and private business. Being a great historian, he published a history of Tobago called ‘La Magdalena’ and was instrumental in the setting up of the Museum as well as supplying it with many maps & charts. David is survived by his wife Pamela Phillips, who is our present Chairman, by their son Andrew and daughters Sarah & Frances.
Any Donations in his memory should be sent to the TTSPCA Tobago Branch, PO Box 373, Scarborough, Tobago.
Fundraising
On Sunday the 27th August ‘06 we were given a booth at the Dog Show held at the Dwight Yorke Stadium car park which was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture. We managed to
raise $2,700 by selling food & refreshments to the many people who attended. We also acquired a few more members and hopefully they will consider volunteering to help at the shelter.
A large variety of dogs attended the show and there were classes for pedigree, mixed breed dogs and the Tobagonian Pot Hound. The over all winner was a Rottweiller called “Bronx”.
Our next Fundraising event will be a GRAND JUMBLE SALE on the Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd September 06. It is being held at the “ARK” Community Hall in Bacolet St. Scarborough and starts at 9am until 2pm on both days .Please come along and browse through all the clothes, toys & household goods we will have on sale.
REMEMBER – it is all for Tobago dogs and cats!

A cat sleeps approximately 16-18 hours a day.
The oldest known cat was a tabby called ‘Puss’ who lived with Mrs T Holway of Devon, England. ‘Puss’ died on November 29 1939, just one day after her 36th birthday!

NEWS IN BRIEF
Early in June the shelter had a visit from the TV6 News team who were doing a news article on the number of strays on the island. They took film of the kennels and ‘yours truly’ gave a short interview and tried to stress the importance of introducing a Government sponsored spaying & neutering programme. It was shown later that evening.
At the end of that month we successfully sent off a pup called Carib to the UK, for a family who fell in love with him on a local beach. However, Please note, that all dogs now leaving the country need an export license.

PLEASE - REDUCE STRAY ANIMALS IN TOBAGO & SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!!!!!!
